Tree Swallow

Tree swallows were perched in trees all along the river. We saw two V's of sandhill cranes flying northward. I took deep breaths of the fresh, clean air.

Squeaky Clean

Pouring rain for several hours this morning. Clearing in the afternoon. There's a full moon and beautifully clear skies tonight.

Someday We'll Find It

It rained. Then it didn't. We were driving around while I stuck the camera out of the moonroof to get a shot of the rainbow.

On the Way Up

My day started hours before daylight. Change in routine isn't a bad thing. I just didn't get to see much of the sun.

On the Way Down

The rain cleared by the late afternoon. A few hints of blue in the sky. Heater back on.

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

White Wash

Rain started by afternoon. Then the wind picked up. I'm expecting fresh, clean air tomorrow.

Camellia Parade

I have several fond memories associated with camellias although the blooms themselves aren't anywhere near my top tier of favorites. When I was a wee child I marched in my city's Camellia Parade a time or two while holding a bouquet of the flowers. And my grandparents always floated the blossoms (usually red ones with white stripes) in mid-century ceramic trays and an oversized brandy snifter.

Great Red Spot

No snakes today--just ladybugs galore. Quail were peeping in the underbrush as we tiptoed by. No real rain--just lots of clouds and a few sprinkles.

Shake, Rattle, and Run

A very small rattlesnake made sluggish by the cooler weather. Thank goodness for a zoom function on the camera. A little sun is now burning through the clouds and the snake has probably gone on its merry way.

Profusion

No rain after all. Just cooler and kind of gloomy. I'm happy to have some flowers in the house.

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Lilium

Thick fog around parts of town this morning. Still warming in the afternoon. Enjoyable evening.

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Red Abutilon

The red cousin to the yellow flowers I ran across in the fall. No hummingbirds hanging around these though they have been zipping around elsewhere. Nearly hit 70 degrees this afternoon.

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Trumpet

Savoring the extra minutes of light in the evening. More flowers daily. Clear blue skies.

Blossom Time

The best day of the year so far. Everything's starting to bloom but the allergies haven't set in yet. I've turned the heater off.

Beads

We were watching a turtle on the log down below when I noticed the spider web. Beads of moisture made it stand out. It's hanging there in the foreground.

In the Hollow

There's a still-life in this burnt log. Tiny plants and spiders have moved in. Quite striking in the sun.

Green Moss

Gorgeous day. At least it looked gorgeous through the windows. Time for planting.

One a Day

The morning fog cleared away for a brilliant afternoon. Almost balmy out. Spring is nearing.

Huddled Mass

Sunny weather after a foggy morning. Long day. Much appreciated pampering when I finally arrived home.

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Feather

Soft foliage of the new denizen of the new terrarium. Rain in the morning. Sun by afternoon.

Monday, February 8, 2010

Lenten Roses

Downcast blooms at the base of the plant went nearly unnoticed. Then a glimpse of color made me stop to look. A good start to the morning.

Sunday, February 7, 2010

Spooling

Very springlike now. The rain subsided for the day. Puffy clouds were to be seen in every direction.

Saturday, February 6, 2010

Marching

This morning's walk was a muddy mess. We saw ten quail. The rest of the wildlife must have been napping.

Friday, February 5, 2010

Open

Was starting to think the new orchid wasn't going to open. It rained all night. No rain but lots of fast-moving clouds today.

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Lemon-Scented

These flowers are strongly scented. They're particularly noticeable when it's raining. And, it was raining today.

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Purple

I'm loving the increase in daylight. Daffodils are definitely 3 weeks earlier than last year. Pops of color are delightful.

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

City Lights

Rain off and on but hardly worth noticing. Forsythia and flowering quince are blooming. Daffodils are budding.

Concerned

The poor carpenter bee was either suffering from some ailment or just sluggish because of the cool weather. I was surprised to see it because there aren't many flowers out now. I hope it'll be okay.
